He and his family have been generous donors to Western, including a $1.5-million gift from Beattie and Torys LLP which was matched by Western to create a $3-million fund to establish the Beattie Chair and support the Torys LLP Corporate and Securities Law Forum.
Beattie was awarded the 2011 Business Leadership Award by Western's Faculty of Law, which recognizes significant and sustained achievements in business.
His siblings are also Western grads. Brother Scott, who is chairman and CEO of Elizabeth Arden Incorporated, earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western's Ivey Business School, while sister Louise earned her Western degree in Sociology.
