Since 2007, Glenn Murphy has been chairman and chief executive officer of Gap Inc., the California-based clothing retailer which operates under such banners as The Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic.
Under his leadership, the youth-oriented clothing retailer has “successfully driven bottom line earnings growth by focusing on healthy margins and expense management,” according to its website.
Before joining Gap, Murphy was chairman and chief executive officer of Shoppers Drug Mart, Canada's largest pharmacy chain. He was with Shoppers from 2001-07 during which time he delivered 22 consecutive quarters of year-over-year revenue growth.
Prior to Shoppers, Murphy held several positions at Loblaw Companies Ltd., where he drove improvements at the company in the face of competition from big box retailers and led the integration of a significant acquisition into Loblaw's portfolio.
He also served as president and CEO of Chapters, Canada's major book retailer with separate retail, online and distribution businesses.
