Mark McQueen is the president and chief executive officer of Toronto-based Wellington Financial LP where he has led growth from its inception as a $7-million fund in 2000 to a $450-million investment program in 2012.
He joined Wellington Financial full-time in 2004, leaving his role as director and head of technology investment banking with Orion Securities (now known as Macquarie Capital Markets).
McQueen’s career in finance began with the Bank of Montreal, where he started as a teller at a Toronto branch but soon received credit training and was certified for commercial lending by 1995. He was later a member of the mergers and acquisitions team at BMO Nesbitt Burns.
Before starting his finance career, McQueen worked as an executive assistant and advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada.
McQueen is chairman of the Toronto Port Authority, which, among other things, owns Billy Bishop Airport.
At Western, McQueen was active in the USC and represented the USC on the Board of Governors, the Speakers Committee, the Progressive Conservative Club and Sigma Chi fraternity.
He is a member of the investment committee of Western University’s endowment and a member of Western's Campaign Cabinet.
McQueen is on the board and executive committee of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, a governor of Sunnybrook Foundation and a former director of several companies listed on the TSX.
