Prem Watsa
Founder, Chairman and CEO, Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited

Prem Watsa is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Fairfax Financial Holdings based in Toronto, Canada. He has been called the "Canadian Warren Buffett".

After acquiring a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering, Mr. Watson earned his MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western in 1974.

After graduating, Mr. Watsa held various positions, ultimately as a Vice President, with Confederation Life Investment Counsel from 1974 to 1983. He then served as Vice President of GW Asset Management from 1983 to 1984. In 1985, he has started an investment firm with his former boss, Tony Hamblin, serving as Vice President of Hamblin Watsa Investment Councel Ltd. In 1985, Mr. Watsa took over Market Financial and renamed it Fairfax Financial Holdings.

Mr. Watsa is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Hospital for Sick Children, as well as a member of the Advisory Board for the Ivey Business School, a member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Ontario Museum Foundation and Chairman of the Investment Committee of St. Paul's Anglican Church.

In 2009, he was appointed the ninth chancellor of the University of Waterloo. He was named to the Order of Canada in 2015.
