When he first landed a job as a part-time teller at a TD Bank branch in Ottawa, Tim Hockey likely assumed a promotion would come.
He might not have imagined a series of bumps all the way up the corporate ladder to president and chief executive officer of TD Canada Trust, Canada's second-largest bank.
Hockey has been president and CEO since 2008 and is also group head of TD's auto finance and credit cards.
During a 30-year career with TD, he has held positions in mutual funds, information technology, core and small business and personal lending. In November, 2015, it was announced he will become president and CEO of TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., a key U.S. holding, on January 2, 2016.
Hockey earned his MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western in 1997 and is a member of Ivey's advisory board.
In 2012, he was among those receiving the Ivey Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his long-term extraordinary service to the Richard Ivey School of Business by supporting Ivey alumni efforts and positively influencing the lives of others.
He chaired the Canadian Bankers Association in 2007-08 and continues to serve as an executive member. He has also served on the boards of VFC, OBSI (The Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments), and TD Bank USA.
He is also a member of the board of directors for the SickKids Foundation, Canada's largest non-governmental granting agency in child health, and chairs its Research & Learning Tower Campaign. In 2015, Toronto Life magazine named him one of Toronto's 50 most influential people of the year.
Hockey and his wife Lana and their two sons live in Mississauga.
