Board of Governors appoints new leadership

Western University’s Board of Governors has appointed Chirag Shah, BSc'89, Chair of the Board for 2014 effective Jan. 1. Joining Western’s Board of Governors in 2010, Shah chaired the Board’s Property and Finance Committee and served as Vice-Chair of the Board in 2013.

Shah is the London Market Leader for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, managing delivery of the firm’s services to clients in the region. He is an active contributor to London’s community and currently serves on the boards of TechAlliance and the United Way of London & Middlesex. He has previously served as chair of the London Chamber of Commerce Board and Campaign Chair for United Way. Shah obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1993. He has a Bachelor of Science from Western, and a Master of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.

The Board of Governors also appointed Hanny Hassan, BESc'64, Vice-Chair for 2014. Hassan manages Alef Consulting Inc., an independent consulting engineering practice in London, Ontario and has been a member of Western’s Board since 2009. He also chairs the Ontario Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee, is Vice Chair of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council’s Ontario Panel and a member of its national executive, and is Co-Chair of the National Muslim-Christian Liaison Committee. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in promoting cultural and religious understanding, is a recipient of the L.S. Lauchland Engineering Alumni Medal from Western, and is an Honorary Fellow of St. Michael’s University College, University of Toronto. Hassan has a Bachelor of Engineering from Western and a Masters of Engineering from Dalhousie University.
