Alumna heads Equine Canada

By Ryan Pyette

A Western alumna is the head of Equine Canada. Western University’s female athlete of the year in 2004, Eva Havaris, BA'03, MA'06, brings a wealth of experience working in sports organizations to her new role as chief executive of Equine Canada.

It seems a strange marriage on the surface that Western’s 2004 female athlete of the year and former Mustangs soccer captain would end up charting the course for this country in pursuits such as show-jumping and dressage in her mid-30s.

But if you take a peek at where the rising executive has been and the path she appears to be travelling, you start to sense you could be looking at one of Canada’s next power leaders in the sport world — like Dick Pound with the International Olympic Committee or Stacey Allaster, the St. Thomas native, in tennis. Read more to learn about Havaris' new role.
