Francis named to bridge authority

Outgoing Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis, BSc'97 (Biochem/Chem), was named November 10 to serve as a director with the International Authority that will oversee construction of the new Detroit River bridge.

Francis will be one of six members on the authority — three from Canada and three from the U.S. who were named months ago.

“I’m honoured and grateful,” Francis said. “I will work to make sure the interests of the community are protected and oversight continues as this proceeds.”

The authority is designed to oversee day-to-day operations of the local Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, which is responsible for the tendering, construction and operations of the $2.1-billion Detroit River International Crossing bridge.
